My Darling Curios Nail Art

Finally, the much-awaited blog post! Thanks for hanging in there while I was on hiatus. I'll probably have another one coming up soon, too, as I'll by flying cross country with my 19 month old toddler to see the grandparents next week. If you're the praying type, please pray for my sanity because anyone who has flown with small children know that I'm going to need all the help I can get. But the consolation prize for another hiatus is Vegas nails, so be sure to stay tuned for them!

On to today's mani, though. It's a bit of art I did using all My Darling Curios polish and some glammymani nail vinyls. I'll preface this post with the fact that I paid maybe a buck fiddy ($1.50) for these MDC polishes, because her stuff is so reasonably priced and there was a sale going on! With that in mind, though, I have a less than glowing review of one of them, which is unusual for my normally unicorny and rainbowy self.

So let's get the bad news out of the way. I hated the base color I used in this mani. It's MDC Ballerina Ball and it just looks awful with my skintone. Which is so unfortunate because it looks beautiful in the bottle; it's a nude/beige polish with pretty gold shimmers in it. I was really hoping it would be a winner for my work appropriate manis, but I just can't do it with this one. The formula wasn't much to write home about either. It was sooooo thick. But not unusably thick. Not like "pour half a bottle of thinner in to get it to work" thick. Just thick. Like one coat is more than enough. I'm normally all about one-coaters, too, but this just looked thick on the nail. Did I mention it was thick?

The shimmers made the polish look kind of gritty, too. In the macro you can see how thick and gritty and not so flattering this polish looks. It kind of made me feel like an ogre sneeze boogers all over my nails. I feel bad being so negative, but this polish just doesn't do it for me.

Which is why I did some art over the top of it. This mani grew on me after doing the nail art, but I still wouldn't call it one of my faves. I used MDC Neon Creamsicle and Songbird, which are both lovely polishes and I would love to use them in manis on their own. Like I said, I used some glammymani vinyls, which I love and adore. I can't say enough good things about that brand; their vinyls are so easy to work with and have great designs! I did some dry brushing on my thumb to cover up the ogre snot, I mean Ballerina Ball, because I was rushed towards the end.

So what say you? I really do love the orange and blue together, and once there's some art to distract from the base, it's really not that bad.
